Here’s what to expect…

Multilingual parenting has its many challenges and rewards. But what about neurodivergent children and how they acquire languages?

My aim with this presentation is to provide a down-to-earth, transparent look into my autistic son's journey growing up trilingual. He began showing evidence of speech delay and several other developmental delays around his second birthday.

Now that we have an official diagnosis and are looking into services for him, I thought it would be helpful to share our experience with other parents and guardians in the language learning community.

I will share honest ways I’m approaching this journey with my son. Hopefully sharing my story will encourage other parents and guardians who are helping special needs children learn languages.

The hospital gave my son this adorable plush pillo

The hospital gave my son this adorable plush pillow before his procedure yesterday.

He needed tubes in his ears because of constant ear infections. He's been struggling with them for the past 6 months.

For each and every ear infection, I worked from home while my little guy screamed and cried.

I prayed each ear infection would be the last.

I knew I couldn't rely on my soon-to-be ex-husband. I learned to rely on myself.

The last time I saw my ex in person, he refused to cooperate with co-parenting. Our son was in middle of what would be the first of many ear infections. I managed by myself.

Taking care of a special needs toddler is a lot of work, but I'm honored to serve my child. I have everything I need to get through any challenge.

And I know I can turn to supportive people for help.

I don't expect anything from anyone anymore.

So this huge plush pillow was a nice surprise 😁
